Haverstraw police charge Nanuet man with attempted murder in October shootings

HAVERSTRAW - A Nanuet man is facing a list of charges including attempted murder as a result of an investigation into the shooting of two men in Haverstraw in October.

Haverstraw town police announced Thursday the arrest of Percy Ayers II, 38, of Nanuet.

Police said Ayers is suspected of shooting two men inside a restaurant on Main Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2022.

Following an extensive investigation by the detective bureau of the Haverstraw town police, Ayers was charged with two counts each of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault; and one count each of second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies.

Ayers was arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and is being held without bail at the Rockland County Correctional Facility, pending further court action.

Rockland County's sheriff's and district attorney's offices, and the Clarkstown and New York City police departments assisted Haverstraw town police in the investigation.
