Editor's Note: This letter has been updated to correct that a civil lawsuit was filed in state court, not federal court.

Robert Spindell is a member of the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The WEC is a bi-partisan commission overseeing elections in Wisconsin.

There are three lawsuits pending against him in his role as a fake elector in former President Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election.

A lawsuit in (Dane County Circuit Court) seeks damages of $2.4 million from Spindell and the other fake electors. The plaintiff alleges that the fake electors conspired with Trump to overturn the election ("Lawsuit over fake Trump electors will proceed to trial,” Sept. 12).

Another lawsuit alleges that Spindell should have recused himself from a complaint filed with the WEC seeking action (against the fake electors) based on a conflict of interest. The lawsuit alleges Spindell, having falsely claimed elector status, sat in judgment on himself.

A third lawsuit alleged Spindell failed to turn over records requested concerning his being a fake elector and did not follow the state’s open records law.

Spindell’s actions undermine the integrity of the WEC and our democracy — and it’s a big deal. It warrants his removal from the commission, yet he remains, all while the Senate GOP majority seeks to elbow Meagan Wolfe from her current position as the current WEC commissioner.

The WEC is supposed to be bi-partisan. It appears the GOP (including Spindell) are going to great lengths to skew the administration of elections in Wisconsin in favor of one party.
