How do you celebrate Halloween?

Whether you like haunted trails, ghost walks, trunk or treat, or maybe you're in the mood for a night of magic there are plenty of Halloween events happening throughout the Wilmington area.

And don't forget about fun Halloween costume contests you can do with your pooch.

Phobia Haunted Trail: Presents The Institute, a haunted trail attraction in the woods. The Haunted Halloween attraction open Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday, Sept. 30-Nov. 6 and is located at 2859 Maco Road, Leland. 910-805-7552.

The Goblin Ball: More than eight bands will perform, vendors, festive activities, and pleanty of suprises, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Reggie's 42nd Street Taven, 1415 S. 42nd St., Wilmington.

Movie in the Park: Disney ❝Hocus Pocus,❞ 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Founders Park, 113 Town Hall Drive, Leland.

Halloween Scare Fair: Food truck, live music, spooky pop-up market, 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at Waterline Brewing Co., 721 Surry St.;, Wilmington.

HOWL-A-Ween at the Haunted Village: Bring your pooch in costume and entered into the raffle in support of the Brunswick County Animals Services. 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at the Olde Southport Village Shoppes, 1102 N. Howe St., Southport.

Ghost Walk: The Ghosts of Pender's Past: Come learn about Pender's Past on the grounds of the Historic Burgaw Cemetery. Listen to Mattie Bloodworth gossip, hear mysteries of Topsail Island, learn about the haunting side of Burgaw and hear many other tales, legends and lore. Tours will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 21-22. Tours are expected to last an hour and a half. The last tour will start at 8:30 p.m. Please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Tickets: $15 adults, $10 ages 5-17. Oak Island Elk Lodge Trunk or Treat: Come dress in your best costume to this free event, sponsored by the Youth Committee, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at 106 E. Dolphin Drive. There will be spooky treats, drinks, and games.

Y'alloween Festival and Trunk or Treat: Sponsored by Hope Recovery Faith Community & Neighborhood Center is a free kid friendly event that is will be safe for LGBTQ and BIPOC (black, indigenous, and other people of color) to attend. There will be fun games, trick or treating, giveaways and free food. 4:30-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3403 Winston Blvd., Wilmington.

Haunted Illusions starring David Caserta: Presented by Thalian Hall's Main Attraction Series. Treat your family to an evening of mind-blowing magic and comedy that gets the whole audience into the act, featuring master illusionist David Caserta. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at Suitable for ages 5 and older. To purchase tickets call the Center Box Office 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

EGG-stra Spooky Hunt: Host by the Oak Island Recreation Department. Begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Middleton Park, 4610 E. Dolphin Drive, Oak Island. Come to the free event dress in your costume to hunt for glowing eggs and candy. Details: 910-278-5518.

Lantern and Lore walking tours: The Historic Wilmington Foundation invites the public to this guided walking tour to learn the true story behind the local lore! Unravel ghost stories and ghoulish legends, tracing them back to Wilmington's past. Travis Gilbert, executive director of the Historic Wilmington Foundation, will lead attendees down dark alleys and secret nooks, as well as the private yards of historic homes. The tours will be held Oct. 28-31. Tickets are $15 and can be obtained at historicwilmington.org/lantern-and-lore. Each tour is less than a mile in length. Please bring your own flashlight. The tour will begin and end at 211 Orange St., Wilmington.

Trunk or Treat at Ocean Isle Beach: 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Ocean Isle Beach Town Center Park, 11 E. Second St.

GooseBumps in the Grove: Poplar Grove Plantation presents GooseBumps in the Grove, a day-time Halloween Gift Show and Carnival for all those young at heart and full of spirit. The weekend event will feature 75 artisan vendors, food trucks, trick-or-treating for the kids, carnival games and prizes, and a little spooktacular fun. Admission is $5 for ages 2 and over, and includes trick or treating with the vendors, PG Witches Candy Chute, vintage carnival games, Mr. Mark's Monster Mash Sing-A-Long, Halloween vintage photo ops, Mr. Twister's The Magic Balloon Man will be making balloon creations. Participants can walk through the main floor of the Haunted Mansion for an additional cost of $5. Hours: 10 a..m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. All proceeds benefit conservation, education and preservation.

Halloween Movie in the Park: ❝The Haunted Mansion,❞ a supernatural horror comedy film stars Eddie Murphy as a realtor who, along with his family, becomes trapped in a haunted mansion, will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Belville Riverwalk Park. Free popcorn will be available, and a food vendor will be on site. The Town of Belville in partnership with Brunswick Family assistance will be collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to a needy family for the holidays. Anyone bringing food items will have a chance to win a fall decoration.

Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Party: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Coastal Paws Retail & Bakery, 108 N. Front St., Wilmington. No admission fee, but collecting donations of food, treats, toys dog or cat supplies, cleaning supplies etc. to donate to local shelters/rescues. Prizes for best in show and best pack (multiple dogs and/or humans with their pets). Winner will be announced at the end of the event.

Spooktacular Halloween: Host by the Oak Island Recreation Department. Games and trick or treat will be for children 13 and under. A Monster Mash parade will be held and is open to everyone. Costume contest for children, adults and pets. The band Dave's Not Home will perform. The Halloween festivities will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Middleton Park, 4610 E. Dolphin Drive, Oak Island. A Halloween farmers market will be held 4-8 p.m. Details: 910-278-5518.

SPOOKtacular Halloween Bash: The 10th annual festive night of music, bewitching beverages and spooktacular food features live music music by The Cut, beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at SeaWitch Cafe & Tiki Bar, 227 Caorlina Beach Ave. N, Carolina Beach. Cash costume at 11 p.m. $5 cover charge.

Trunk or Treat in Leland: 4-6 p.m Saturday, Oct. 29 at Founders Park, 113 Town Hall Drive. Local businesses and community organizations will pass out candy from decorated vehicles. Free.

Wilmington KOA Campground Halloween: Craft time and ceramic painting at the Pavilion from 1-2 p.m. Costume contest and costume train ride 4 p.m. Decorating contest, pumpkin carving contest (judging at 5 p.m.) Trick or treating around the campground at 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic at the pavilion lawn and enjoy music by DJ Capt Mike 5-7 p.m. Event will be Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7415 Market St., Wilmington.

Calvary Baptist Church Trunk or Treat: The church's16th annual community trunk or treat event, 6-7 pm. Monday, Oct. 31 at 423 N. 23rd St., Wilmington (in the grassy lots adjacent to Plaza Drive).

Southport Super Hero's Trunk Or Treat:The free event is sponsored by the Southport Fire Department and will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 at 1011 N. Howe St.

Surf City Fire Department Halloween trunk or treat: Station 25 will hold the free event at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 at 200 Wilmington Ave. Open to all ages.

Trunk or Treat in Bolivia: Fun for all ages. Free to the public. Come meet your hometown heroes, 10 p.m. Oct. 31 at 3848 Old Ocean Highway, Bolivia.

Trunk or Treat in Winnabow: Living Word will be hosting trunk or treat, Monday, Oct. 31. Please bring a bag of candy and donate it to the bins in the lobby. The church is located at 1029 George II Hwy SE, Winnabow.
