Hawick man dies Sunday night after going under water in North Long Lake near Hawick

Jul. 5—HAWICK — A 28-year-old Hawick man died Sunday night after going under the water in North Long Lake in Irving Township, according to a news release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.

The man's name will be released following family notifications.

According to the release, the man had gone into the lake to retrieve a bobber while fishing from a dock. The man began to struggle and went under the water. He did not have a life vest on.

He was eventually located in the lake after multiple agencies searched the water. Life-saving measures were performed but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New London Fire Department, New London Ambulance, Spicer Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Life Link Air Ambulance and CentraCare EMS assisted in the incident, reported at 7:58 p.m.
