Hawkeyes’ Caitlin Clark spikes ticket prices, sells out Welsh-Ryan Arena for first time

Carver-Hawkeye Arena is no stranger to selling out a game — it’s not like they didn’t sell out every women’s game of the 2023-24 season nearly instantaneously. But what’s more or equally as impressive is that 30 of the 32 games on Iowa’s schedule are either sold out or broke an attendance record.

The cheapest ticket to Iowa’s game vs Northwestern was $289 (!!). Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston holds just over 7,000 people. And for the first time ever, a women’s basketball game sold out.

That’s the Caitlin Clark effect.

“It’s cool to see just how the crowds have changed as my career has unfolded,” Clark said. “Obviously, I started in COVID, where it was just family and now every single game I play in — it’s all sold out.

“It’s not something you ever take for granted — I think it’s kind of crazy. People are screaming my name so much. It’s not something you really ever get used to.”

While Iowa vs. Northwestern is not a box office Big Ten rivalry game, Clark said she had this one circled.

“I know the amount of Iowa fans in the Chicago area so I was super excited to come here,” Clark said. “I love this gym and Coach Joe (McKeown) I have so much respect for him. I think he’s amazing.”

Clark delivered a 35-point, 10-assist performance against the Wildcats. The third-ranked Hawkeyes will travel to Maryland on Saturday.
