This Hawk's an Eagle: Maysville student and athlete earns Eagle Scout rank

ZANESVILLE — Tillman Hawk, 17, of Zanesville, will be awarded his Eagle Scout rank on Sept. 30, at First Christian Church.

The son of Todd and Kristina Hawk is a senior at Maysville High School. A member of Boy Scout Troop 128, chartered by Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hawk joined scouting as a fifth-grader.

To achieve the Eagle Rank, he earned 31 merit badges (only 21 are required) and is currently serving as patrol leader and is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

For his Eagle Scout project, Hawk built an outdoor gaga ball pit for the youth group at First Christian Church. He also built a wooden cross in the church’s outdoor pavilion area, Spangler Memorial, to be used for outdoor services, weddings and other events.

He was recently inducted in the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout’s National Honor Society. Other highlights of his scouting career include attending the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, participating in the National Day of Prayer, attending five scout summer camps, placing flags on veterans graves and assisting with other Eagle Scout projects.

Hawk is a three-year letterman on the Maysville High School varsity swim team, where he has set multiple school records and won the MVL in the 500 freestyle. He is a three-year member of the Pau Hana Swim Team at Denison University. Hawk was a state qualifier for National History Day in 2023 and was awarded the 2023 Ashbrook Center at Ashland University American Founding Award. He is also a three-year letterman in cross country, plays the trumpet in the Maysville High School Marching Band and has his own lawn care business.

Hawk is a member of First Christian Church where he has served on two mission trips and volunteered with the youth group at many community organizations including Christ’s Table, Eastside Community Ministry and Homeless Hands. He has served as a deacon and lector.

Hawk plans to pursue a degree in computer science with a minor in zoology in college while continuing his swimming career.
