Jul. 16—Tyrese Martin has gotten a taste of what life as a member of the Atlanta Hawks is like during the 2022 NBA Summer League schedule.

Life as a Hawk is something the UConn grad will have to get used to.

Martin has been signed to a multi-year contract, the Hawks announced Saturday. No details of the contract were released per team policy.

The 6-foot-6 guard was drafted in the second round (51st overall) by the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Draft June 23. He was traded to the Hawks that night for the 44th pick Ryan Rollins and cash considerations.

In four Summer League games, the Allentown, Pennsylvania native is averaging 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.2 minutes per game. He also boasts a 47.5 field goal percentage.

Arguably his best performance was a game-high 21-point effort on 9-of-14 shooting in a 95-88 victory over Miami July 12.

Martin was a two-year starter with the Huskies after transferring to the team ahead of the 2020-21 season following two years at the University of Rhode Island. He helped lead UConn to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since 2011 and 2012.

As a senior, Martin started 29 games for the Huskies. He averaged 13.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game while posting 44.9 shooting and 43.0 three-point percentages. He was a Big East tournament all-tournament team selection and was a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association District I All-District team.

The 2022-23 NBA season begins Oct. 19.
