May 30—SULLY — Lynnville-Sully's softball and baseball teams improved to 2-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play on Friday with narrow wins over North Mahaska.
The Hawk girls scored three runs in the first three innings and held off their visitors, 3-2. The Warhawks scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning but it wasn't enough.
In the baseball game, the Hawks plated just one run but it held up in a 1-0 win over North Mahaska at home.
Caitlin Alberts led the softball team with a double and two RBIs and she also was hit by a pitch.
Cayler Noun Harder had one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk. Lily Zylstra and Korinne Jansen both had one hit and one run, Laci Keen walked once and Reagan McFarland tallied one hit and stole a base.
Denali Conover was the winning pitcher after allowing two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.
The L-S softball team is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the SICL, while North Mahaska fell to 2-1 in the SICL and 2-1 overall.
L-S scored its lone run in the third inning in the baseball game.
The Hawks (2-2, 2-0) had three hits total, all by Davis Utech. Corder Noun Harder and Owen Norrish each walked once and Ryan Annee scored the game's only run as a courtesy runner.
Conner Maston got the win on the mound for L-S. He allowed three hits and walked three while striking out seven in seven innings.
North Mahaska's baseball team fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
