Hawthorne voted North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 9

After four days of voting, Hawthorne has been selected as the North Jersey Football Team of the Week for Week 9.

The Bears (7-1) registered their sixth consecutive win, 20-0, over Manchester. It marked their third shutout in four games and fourth overall. Senior Troy Eckert ran for a 54-yard TD and threw a 30-yard TD pass to senior Ashton Navarette and a 20-yard score to senior Jayden Shwed.

Here were the other nominees:

Bogota

The Bucs (7-0) remained the lone unbeaten in the NJIC Union Division behind a 35-6 win over Palisades Park/Leonia. Sophomore Michael Olivo ran for a score and threw a TD pass to senior Gabe Nunez, who also ran for a score. Sophomores Van Mixon and Joseph Perpepaj also ran for TD.

Dumont

The Huskies (8-0) beat Snyder, 57-14, and that’s the most points they’ve scored since 2004. Senior Devon Turner carried 19 times for 306 yards and five TD. Junior RB Michael Gabettie carried eight times for 88 yards and a score and senior RB Eric Cueto seven times for 61 yards and a TD.

Ridgefield Park

The Scarlets (7-2) registered their second shutout in three weeks with a 28-0 victory over Newark Collegiate. Senior LB Jaysun Sin had 12 tackles, including three for losses, and recovered a fumble. Senior RB Tyler Colon carried 19 times for 139 yards and a score.

Rutherford

The Bulldogs (7-1) captured their second NJIC Championship thanks to a 27-20 victory over Park Ridge. Senior RB Pat Cerulli scored on runs of 2, 1 and 8 yards, the last of which was the game winner. Junior QB Van Weber threw an 81-yard TD pass to senior WR Alex DiMaulo.
