Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi reunite to create a beautifully animated and scored trailer for Ghibli Park

As preparations for the grand opening of the highly anticipated Ghibli Park are ramping up, the acclaimed animation studio shared a trailer for the park on Twitter.

Clocking in at 15 seconds, the clip depicts a host of some of the most beloved Studio Ghibli characters — including No-Face and Totoro — riding the Cat Train, which was inspired by the friendly Cat Bus that appears in the film “My Neighbor Totoro.”

While the teaser is brief, its trailer recruited the talents of many of the animation studio’s most influential figures, with peppy and playful music orchestrated by legendary composer Joe Hisaishi and the vibrant animation having been done by none other than Hayao Miyazaki.

With the park gearing up to become one of Japan’s most popular destinations for tourists and locals alike, the park has implemented reservation policies to control crowds; however, the trailer assures Ghibli fans that all are welcome and encouraged them to “take their time coming.”

The first three sections of the park — Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, the Hill of Youth and Dondoko Forest — are scheduled to open on Nov. 1, while the second phase of the park will open in 2023 with areas inspired by Ghibli classics “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Princess Mononoke.”
