Haynesville’s Kyle Woodard wins Shreveport Times Week 13 Athlete of the Week
Haynesville’s Kyle Woodard secured enough votes this week to win the Times online poll for Football Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.
Woodard is the quarterback for the Golden Tornado, who play Homer Friday night in the semifinal round of the LHSAA Class 1A playoffs. He becomes the first Haynesville winner in the online poll during the 2021-22 school year.
He joins Parker Fulghum of Evangel, Kamron Evans of Huntington, Aiden Colvin of Benton and Braylon Finney of Captain Shreve as winners in the weekly poll.
Woodard and his supporters accumulated 5,317 votes, 50.6% of the 10,509 votes cast, to top a field of nine additional candidates, including second place Aeron Burrell of Parkway, who made a strong run at the honor with 4,962 votes (47.2%).

Woodard will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s.
In leading the Tors to the verge of a state championship berth, Woodard has completed 24 of 63 passes for 429 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 166 yards and three more scores.
Others on the 13th ballot of the school year were Derrick Roberts, Northwood; Myles Williams, Calvary; Jay Smart, Many; Brady Beason, Ruston; Cole Dison, Union Parish; Win Robinson, North Caddo; Elyjay Curry, Homer; Tydre Malone, J-Hodge and Kham Boykins, Logansport.
They were chosen because of their performance the previous week or because their names were submitted by their coach. The Times poll is posted each Monday at shreveporttimes.com with a new slate of student-athletes who play football.
The Times online only poll runs through Thursday night.
