Hays County Jail inmate's death under investigation, sheriff says
Texas law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a man in custody at the Hays County Jail on Wednesday.
A medical emergency was called for 41-year-old inmate James Warren Knight just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release. Jail medical staff responded to the call and then took him to a nearby hospital.
Hospital staff began treating Knight, but he was pronounced dead at 5:59 a.m. Wednesday. His cause of death was not immediately clear.
The preliminary investigation does not indicate foul play, and Knight's autopsy results are pending, Hays County sheriff’s office officials said.

Knight was in jail on multiple charges: resisting arrest/search or transport, a class A misdemeanor; unlawful carrying of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor; criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony; violation of protective order, a class A misdemeanor; tampering with ID number, a class A misdemeanor, and a charge from the Austin Police Department for possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony.

Knight's death is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
