Hays County task force extinguishes 15-acre wildfire in Kyle; 100% contained

Evacuations were lifted in the Hays County wildfire that started Tuesday afternoon in the 290 block of Roland Lane in Kyle, according to a Facebook post by the county's office of emergency management.

The 15-acre fire was 100% contained and completely out as of Wednesday afternoon, said Kyle Fire Department official Andy Womble. Firefighting crews are no longer on the scene, and the blaze did not cause any reported injuries or damage to structures, Womble said.

Homes in the Aztec Village neighborhood were evacuated out of an abundance of caution. The evacuation was lifted around 4 p.m. Tuesday, by which time the fire was 90% contained. Fifty homes were evacuated, Womble said.

Air support was on the way, the office of emergency management said shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday. The office urged the public not to attempt to fly drones or other aerial systems near the fire because those devices can hurt emergency response time.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said Tuesday morning that there is a high potential for wildfires that are resistant to control through Friday amid ongoing critical fire weather in the region.

Tuesday's fire came days after at least two other large fires in the area, including one that spread across 400 acres in Hays County.
