🌱 HB Civic Center Police Response + HBCSD Reports 7 COVID Cases

Hello, neighbors; today is National Audubon Day! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Huntington Beach Daily.

A potentially dangerous situation was diffused and lockdowns were lifted. Also, there are seven cases of COVID in the HB City School District. Finally, do you have some ideas for the design of Edison Park?

First, today's weather:

Some sunshine. High: 71 Low: 56.

Here are the top stories in Huntington Beach today:

  1. Monday morning began with an armed and possibly suicidal person at the Civic Center on the 2000 block of Main Street. This led to “lockdowns of city hall, the police station, and Huntington Beach High School.” However, the HBPD announced right around 11:30 a.m. that the person surrendered and lockdowns were lifted. (Patch)

  2. The HB City School District released its latest set of COVID numbers on Monday. Cases have increased to seven. There are two confirmed cases at Moffett Elementary and one each at Smith Elementary, Hawes Elementary, Eader Elementary, Sowers Middle School, and Dwyer Middle School. (HBCSD)

  3. The city wants your input on Edison Park. RJM Design Group is ready to create a Conceptual Master Plan for the park. You can shape it by participating in the survey. (City of HB)

  4. Five students from the Oxford Academy High School headed to the beach over the weekend. But instead of playing around in the sand or water, they were volunteers “who spent the day picking up trash.” “It wasn't just plastic bottles that these students found on Saturday. Everything from Barbie dolls, parts of pens and parts of toys were found in the sand.” (CBS)

  5. Dwyer Middle School’s Chorale, which is an ensemble “of more than 50 advanced choir students from chamber choir, vocal ensemble, and Ripple Effect,” “had the experience of a lifetime performing at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City.” The performance took place on March 26 as part of the Nationals for Top Choirs.
