The image also revealed that the series will make the jump from the '70s to the '80s.

The tweet read: "The Deuce final season is coming to VHS. JK, but can you imagine?"

Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon, The Deuce charts the the porn industry boom in 1970s New York and its ongoing rise through the mid-1980s, exploring themes including the drug epidemic and the rise of HIV.

Franco plays twins Vincent and Frankie in the series, the former leaving behind bar work at the end of season two to become a porn producer, and the latter still struggling with debts. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal plays Candy, a former porn star-turned-producer and director.

The series was struck by controversy last year when it was announced that Franco would be returning for the second season, despite facing allegations of sexual misconduct.

The actor later dismissed the accusations as "not accurate".

The Deuce was picked up by HBO for its second season in 2017. Sky Atlantic airs the show in the UK.
