Head-on crash in Long Grove leaves one dead, two seriously injured

A head-on collision between a box truck and semi-truck on Route 53, also known as Hicks Road, in Long Grove left one dead and two others with critical injuries.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the crash about a quarter-mile north of Lake Cook Road, at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation reveals a 2021 Isuzu box truck, driven by a man, was traveling northbound on Route 53. For an unknown reason, the box truck crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic into the path of a southbound 2016 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 49-year-old man from Dixon.

The driver of the box truck sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An adult male passenger in the Isuzu box truck was transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

An autopsy is scheduled for the driver of the box truck after the Lake County coroner’s office responded to the scene. The identities of those involved had yet to be released Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
