As news outlet Delfi reported on Oct. 8, Reinsalu said he assumed that Ukraine was behind the incident, and he congratulated the “Ukrainian secret services” on this “brave act.”

“Estonia certainly welcomes this (the explosion on the Kerch Bridge) and congratulates the Ukrainian special forces, who are probably behind this operation,” Reinsalu said.

He said he did not rule out that the detonation on the bridge was especially timed, as yesterday was Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s 70th birthday.

“I believe that (the bridge) has been a target for a long time,” Reinsalu said.

He said the Kerch bridge had an important symbolic meaning for Russia, as it connects it with the Crimea and was an important logistical link.

“The bridge was also important to Putin because it (was supposed to) confirm that Crimea would forever remain with Russia,” added Reinsalu.

According to NV sources in law enforcement, the blowing up of the Crimean Bridge was a special operation of Ukraine’s SBU security service.

The SBU did not comment on its role in the incident. The service has published a photo of the partially destroyed bridge captioned with an ironic message on its Telegram messenger channel.
