Aysen Nikolayev, the head of the Republic of Sakha (also known as Yakutia), demands that those men who were mobilised by mistake are brought home.

Quote from Nikolayev at the meeting on mobilisation: "There are cases of mobilisation of citizens who should not have been drafted. For example, cases of conscription of parents with many children, those who have 4 or more children aged under 16. To make this impossible, I have instructed to strengthen the interaction of local self-government bodies with military enlistment offices.

All those who were mobilised by mistake must be sent back."

Details: He added that this work has already begun, and in the future it would be controlled by his administration and government of Yakutia, together with the Republican Military Committee.

Nikolayev also said that he proposed the government to take measures to support the families of the mobilised people.

They concern a one-time payment of 200,000 rubles [$3,400 US dollars] to a family, exemption from fees in kindergartens, free meals at school, and tickets to children's health camps.

Background:

  • On the morning of 21 September, Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilisation.

  • Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu claimed that 300,000 reservists would be mobilised.

  • Immediately after Putin’s speech, Russians bought up all direct tickets for September 21 to Istanbul and Yerevan. Prices of plane tickets to so-called safe countries soared sky-high.

  • Later, it turned out that the hidden 7th paragraph of the Russian President’s decree on partial mobilisation provides for mobilisation of 1 million people.
