Headed to the Colorado State Fair? Here's what to know about Pueblo's 10-day weather forecast

Pueblo just completed a weeklong stretch with temperatures hovering around the 90s and flirting with the 100s, but the weather is cooling down in time for the 2023 Colorado State Fair, which kicked off Friday.

“That big area of high-pressure heat dome, so to speak, that was out in the Midwest — part of that pushed all the way back into Colorado, so we got a piece of that heat wave,” Steve Hodanish, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Pueblo office, told the Chieftain. “The brunt of it, fortunately, moved to the east, so now the cooler weather has moved back in. It’s more seasonable weather.”

Pueblo’s weather is shaping up to be just right through Labor Day, which marks the final day of the fair. Here’s what to know about the forecast over the next 10 days.

Expect some cooler weather, potentially rain this weekend

A flash flood watch was active Friday afternoon with heavy rain expected to fall over Pueblo into the evening. Saturday is expected to be even cooler with a predicted high of 78 degrees for the day and a good chance for showers and thunderstorms over the area. Hodanish said there’s a 40% chance for rain to fall in Pueblo Saturday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures are expected to pick up a bit on Sunday, settling in the mid-80s, with similar chances for showers and thunderstorms, though it isn't expected to be as widespread as the precipitation predicted for Friday and Saturday. The lows for Saturday and Sunday nights are expected to be around 60 degrees.

Anticipate another bout of rain but drier days throughout next week

The high temperatures Monday are expected to hover around the low-80s and high-70s with precipitation possibly returning in the afternoon and evening with showers and thunderstorms. The low at night will likely be around 56 degrees.

The weather Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be largely calm, as the former has a predicted temperature of around 81 degrees. It’s supposed to get slightly hotter on Wednesday at around 90 degrees.

Pueblo is expected to moderately heat up Thursday and Friday, with highs near or above 90 degrees. Chances for precipitation after Monday are expected to drop, and if there is rain, Hodanish said people could see isolated showers and storms in Pueblo.

NWS Pueblo is also forecasting moderate winds throughout the week with speeds between 5 and 15 miles per hour.

Activity-friendly weather expected for Labor Day weekend

Pueblo is expected to continue to dry out Friday, Sept. 1, and into Labor Day with temperatures in the 80s and 90s throughout the weekend. It’s not forecasted at this time that the weather on those days will reach or surpass the mid-90s, but because those dates are much farther out, it’s possible the forecast could change, Hodanish said.

He also said it’s too early to predict if there may be rain during Labor Day weekend.
