Heading to Rockford's Stroll on State? Here are some helpful tips for a hassle-free trip

Stroll on State is almost here.

Stroll is a family friendly event that attracts tens of thousands of people to downtown Rockford to celebrate the arrival of the holiday season.

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about Stroll.

When and where is Stroll on State?

Stroll takes place every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Activities take place in downtown Rockford.

How much does Stroll on State cost?

There is no admission fee, but you'll want to bring money for food and shopping.

Will downtown businesses be open?

Most restaurants, bars and businesses will be open all day and all night. There will also be plenty of vendors joining them.

Where is the best place to park?

Free shuttle buses will run all night taking guests from three nearby parking lots to Stroll and back to their vehicles. Parking lots are YMCA, 200 Y Blvd., Forest City Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road and Crusader Community Health, 1200 W. State St.

Buses start at 1:30 and stop running at 9:30 p.m.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets/animals are not allowed at Stroll. Service animals are allowed but are limited to animals that are trained to work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. Comfort, therapy or emotional support animals do not meet the definition of service animal. Certified service animals must be harnessed, leashed or tethered. Can I bring my bike, scooter or skateboard?

Due to space and safety reasons, bikes, scooters and skateboards are not allowed within the Stroll footprint.

What is there to do?

There will be activities and attractions on both sides of the Rock River along State Street all day and all night. There will be live music, a s'mores station, hot chocolate station, horse and wagon rides, letters to Santa, a car show, indoor and outdoor movies, a dance party for kids, Fire & Ice display, the Merry & Bright parade at 2 p.m., the tree lighting at 6 p.m., fireworks at 8 p.m. and more.
