April 16, 1906: “One week from Thursday the loyal baseball fans of South Bend, who have so anxiously awaited the crack of the bat and the ‘play ball’ from the umpire, will have the pleasure of crowding into a street car and going to Springbrook park to see the first game of the Central league season.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 17, 1916: “The annual bread contest in the city school will take place next Wednesday when the girls of the seven A, eighth grades and High school will compete for prizes. The bread will be judged in the various buildings and then sent to the grammar school for the final judging.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 18, 1927: “Two organizations, The St. Joseph County Ministerial association and the Typographical union, No. 128, have adopted resolutions protesting against the daylight saving proposal now before the city council, which will come up for discussion at the council meeting to-night.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 19, 1933: “An audience that filled the main auditorium and mezzanine floor of the First Methodist Episcopal church was attracted Tuesday evening to the church to see the ‘Pageant of Brides’ presented. Many of the bridal gowns which represented a period of 67 years in the history of South Bend society, were works of art, while others created considerable amusement with their quaint outlines.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 20, 1946: “A burglary of a gasoline filling station and an attempted safe robbery in the office of a wrecking company were reported to police Friday. Everett D. Hoover reported the theft of $8.40 from a changer in a desk drawer at a filling station at 318 East Mishawaka avenue. The front door was forced open with a bar.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 21, 1953: “Two of three men accused of conspiring to defraud the government in connection with purchase of surplus property from Bunker Hill Naval Air Station, Peru, Ind., have asked that their case be tried in the Fort Wayne division of U. S. District Court.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 22, 1961: “The Studebaker-Packard Male Chorus and the Bendix Male Chorus are among the more than 1,000 singers taking part today in the annual Midwest sing of the Associated Male Choruses of America in Detroit. Participating in the business session is Virgil Stamm, president of the Midwest District and a vice-president of the Associated Male Choruses of America.” — The South Bend Tribune
