August 21, 1905: “It has been determined to erect at Notre Dame a monument of Very Rev. Father Sorin, late superior general of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and founder of the University of Notre Dame. The cost is to be $25,000.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 22, 1910: “The frame of a new $4,350 motor patrol wagon with mechanical parts complete under construction by the Studebaker Bros. Manufacturing company for the South Bend police department, was given a trial run today. The car was in charge of a demonstrator of the company and was exhibited to members of the board of public safety and police officials.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 23, 1927: “Twenty new all-steel passenger cars—the equal in comfort and beauty of appointments of any now in service on an electrically-operated railroad—have been received by the Chicago, South Shore & South Bend railroad—the South Shore line—from the Pullman Car & Manufacturing corporation. The new equipment, which consists of 10 motor cars and 10 trailers, is being placed in regular operation as quickly as road tests and inspections can be completed.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 24, 1930: “Demolition of the historic standpipe continued at a rapid pace during the past week and workmen have nearly reached the half-way mark. The razing will take slightly longer than at first anticipated but the shaft will be taken down to the ground shortly after Sept. 1, it was said Saturday.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 25, 1940: “Details definitely assuring South Bend of the world premiere of the motion picture, ‘Knute Rockne-All American,’ have been satisfactorily worked out in conferences here between Jesse I. Pavey, South Bend’s mayor, and the executive heads of the Warner Bros. studio. Representing the University of Notre Dame in the conference was its vice president, Rev. John J. Cavanaugh, C.S.E.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 26, 1955: “Construction is scheduled to start immediately on a new $50,000 extension of the present library at the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing unity at 410 N. Notre Dame Ave., Sister Nazarita, C.S.C., hospital administrator, said today.” — The South Bend Tribune

August 27, 1962: “The creation of an assistant dean to further develop extension programs in the business field at the South Bend-Mishawaka Campus and other centers of Indiana University, Bloomington, was announced today.” — The South Bend Tribune
