July 23, 1907: “The Gus Lambrigger animal show opened a week’s engagement in this city Monday evening. The attraction has pitched its tent at the southwest corner of Michigan and Division streets across from the Grand Trunk depot. Many attended the opening and spoke in high terms of the exhibit, which is regarded by many as an educational menagerie, the show embracing a fine collection of birds, animals and big snakes.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 24, 1919: “Completion of the markings of the streets in the downtown district in the new traffic regulations was announced to-day by the police department. The last markings were made late Wednesday afternoon, and now, according to the police, everything is ready for the strict enforcement of the new traffic regulations.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 25, 1922: “Trustees of the Mar-Main Arms apartments to be built at the corner of Main and Marion streets, this morning announced the filing of one of the largest trust deeds ever recorded in this county. Awarding of a contract for construction of the apartments to be Bedford Stone & Construction company, builders of the new Hotel LaSalle, was also announced. Work on the new apartments has already begun. — The South Bend Tribune

July 26, 1931: “Winnie Lightner, star of ‘Gold Diggers of Broadway,’ comes to the Tivoli theater to-day in what is said to be her dizziest comedy, ‘Gold Dust Gertie,’ which may be a descriptive title, as Winnie succeeds in extracting gold dust, or its equivalent, from everybody in sight.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 27, 1942: “Robert J. Shultz, aged 47, and Gerald Francis Shultz, 19, of 805 North St. Peter street, father and son, have turned to the sea to serve their country. Mr. Shultz, veteran of world war No. 1 has reenlisted in the United States navy and has been ordered to report to the Philadelphia, Pa., navy yard on Monday. Gerald is in the submarine service on active duty. The father joined the navy in December, 1917, and served 15 months on the destroyer, Burrows." — The South Bend Tribune

July 28, 1958: “Harold Nelson’s entry in the Mishawaka Homing Pigeon Club’s 112-mile race from Gilman, Ill., finished first in a flight on 260 pigeons Sunday. The winning bird flew the distance in 2:53:01 for an average speed of 39 miles an hours.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 29, 1962: “Seven-year-old Christopher McCusker, had a narrow escape late Saturday afternoon when hewas locked in a clothes trunk for about 15 minutes at his home at 1031 Foster St. South Bend police freed the boy who was uninjured.” — The South Bend Tribune
