July 5, 1921: “That South Bend will in the next few days, run the risk of a serious water famine is the contention of James N. Luther, superintendent of the water works in stating to-day that the output of the central pumping station will be diminished to the extent of 2,500,000 gallons daily due to the draining of the west race for the purpose of cleaning it.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 6, 1932: “South Bend will forfeit its Central league franchise Saturday. This announcement, coming from Edwin O. Miller, official auditor of the league, this morning, may prove to be a bombshell which will rock the entire league and start an uprising which will result in several league officials being ousted and the reorganization of the circuit into a four-club organization with Fort Wayne, Youngstown, Dayton and Erie as members.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 7, 1940: “To promote interest in archery a course for boys 11 years old or over will be inaugurated Tuesday by the Y. M. C. A. boys division. Classes will begin Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Lasalle park archery range. All equipment will be furnished by the Y. M. C. A.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 8, 1950: “South Bend airmail and air parcel post service has reached a new high in service to the public, air line and post office spokesmen said today. Eighteen flights daily carry letters and packages to all parts of the United States and the world from South Bend, they said.” — The South Bend Tribune

July 9, 1962: “Two oil firms have agreed to make their gasoline price advertising match the metering price on their pumps following complaints by the South Bend Department of Weights and Measures, City Sealer Bert S.
