Aug. 27, 1906: “Bankruptcy proceedings involving the Hotel Nickel, which were filed in the United States district court at Indianapolis, will be heard before Referee F. E. Lambert at his office in the Odd Fellows’ building Tuesday morning.” — The South Bend Tribune

Aug. 28, 1917: “The remaining 250 members of the Third Indiana infantry stationed in South Bend will probably leave South Bend early next week for Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Miss. The probability of this move is assured by word received by Col. George W. Freyermuth from Capt. Clinton D. Rogers to the effect that work on Camp Shelby should be completed within 10 days.” — The South Bend Tribune

Aug. 29, 1925: “Addresses by Prof. James A. Woodburn, of Indiana Historical society, who discussed ‘Pathfinders and Pioneers of New France,’ and by Otto M. Knoblock, of South Bend, on ‘Early Navigation on the St. Joseph River,’ featured the midsummer meeting last night of the Indiana Historical society and the Society of Indiana Pioneers with the Northern Indiana Historical society in South Bend." — The South Bend Tribune

Aug. 30, 1939: “Twenty-four paid directors who have been in charge of the city’s playgrounds the last 10 weeks are leaving their jobs today and playground equipment is being placed in storage, park department officials announced. Part of the equipment will be lent on application for its use, the officials said.” — The South Bend Tribune

Aug. 31, 1948: “A campaign to raise $10,000 within the next week for the South Bend symphony orchestra got under way Monday evening at a dinner meeting of the committee in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Morris, 1237 East Jefferson boulevard. Meanwhile, the women’s committee will begin its annual sale of season tickets at a tea Wednesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Morris.” — The South Bend Tribune

Sept. 1, 1954: “New city bus schedules will go into effect in South Bend and Mishawaka Saturday with the approach of the school season, John T. Martin, president of Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., announced today. He said the principal changes would include the restoration of 10-minute service on the Notre Dame line, the addition of 10 or 12 school trippers and seven runs and the scheduling of late runs leaving downtown at 11:35 p.m.” — The South Bend Tribune

Sept. 2, 1962: “Notre Dame tried out its new practice field Saturday in the first of the two-a-day fall football sessions and the general consensus seems to give the field an A-1 rating. The vast, new practice area, east of Juniper Rd. and about a quarter-mile away from the standing comprises a full five fields and almost 40 acres in total area.” — The South Bend Tribune
