Oct. 15, 1904: “Final arrangements were completed to-day for the transfer of the old Elks’ building site at the northeast corner of Michigan street and Colfax avenue, for a new site on the north side of West Colfax avenue, one-half block from Main street, across from the Commercial Athletic club. — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 16, 1913: “Tom Wise, one of the most famous comedians on the American stage, will be at the Auditorium theater for one week, beginning Sunday, Oct. 26, in “A Gentleman From Mississippi.” The appearance of Mr. Wise in South Bend will be in line with a policy entirely new to the city, the management of the local theater having made arrangements to introduce a new star to South Bend every week.” — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 17, 1927: “It was cold, but the riders stuck to their saddles, and 15 of the 16 starters in The Tribune’s 18-hour endurance motorcycle run, that started Saturday at midnight, went the entire route and checked in at the Tribune building between 5:30 and 6:30 last evening.” — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 18, 1937: “Twenty-two thousand pounds of grapes await quick distribution to St. Joseph county indigents on direct relief, Giles Morgan, manager of the federal surplus commodities corporation warehouse, announced today.” — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 19, 1947: “Mishawaka’s chest X-ray survey, entering its second and final week of action and beyond the halfway mark towards the goal of 20,000 persons X-rayed, will seek the cooperation of every resident over 15 years of age in a house-to-house neighborhood coverage this week.” — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 20, 1952: “Electric light and power in the downtown area was cut off for 15 minutes shortly after 4 a.m.Sunday to permit repairs to a feed line at the downtown sub-station.” — The South Bend Tribune

Oct. 21, 1963: “Several thousand persons from the South Bend-Mishawaka area lined the street Sunday for the city’s fourth annual United Nations Day parade in honor of the 18th anniversary of the founding of the world body.” — The South Bend Tribune
