April 9, 1900: “Postmaster Gaylor has received an official communication from First Assistant Postmaster General Perry S. Heath, Washington, D.C., notifying him that the free delivery of mail will go in force in Mishawaka Aug. 1. There are also instructions to the postmaster. A civil service commission will soon be appointed and the officials will make appointments following examinations.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 10, 1914: “The generosity of fellow employees at the South Bend post office yesterday provided funds to take Frank J. Connelly, of South Carroll street, together with this wife to the west where Mr. Connelly may recover his health.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 11, 1921: “The art department of the Progress club has made it possible for South Bend to claim the distinction of an art exhibit, the equal of which has perhaps never been shown in northern Indiana. The works of a number of the most representative of the modern day American artists were shown to appreciative audiences Saturday and Sunday in the Rotary and Turkish rooms of the Oliver hotel.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 12, 1932: “Carl McMann, for the past 13 years connected with the Oliver hotel barber shop, has taken over the management of the Hotel Hoffmann barber shop and is now on duty in his new location. Mr. McMann, one of the best known barbers in the city, is a world war veteran and is active in the American legion, civic and Masonic affairs of the city.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 13, 1949: “The construction of the new First Presbyterian church on the West Colfax avenue site across the street from Central High school is expected to begin next spring, according to a report given Tuesday night by Delos M. Coen, chairman of the church’s building committee held with the trustees, elders and deacons of the church.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 14, 1958: “The city today was to fill the drop-offs at the McKinley lagoon storm water spillways with concrete chunks in an effort to eliminate a hazard that claimed a child’s life two weeks ago, City Engineer Raymond S. Andrysiak announced at the meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety.” — The South Bend Tribune

April 15, 1962: “Rapid growth of the Marycrest Shopping Center in the 2000 block of Western Ave. was forecast Saturday as F. W. Woolworth Co. announced it has contracted for a store in the area.” — The South Bend Tribune
