Heads up, Virginia: Early, in-person voting ends Saturday

Voters looking to beat Election Day crowds have until the end of Saturday to cast their ballots in person ahead of Tuesday’s general election.

Early voting will close at 5 p.m. Saturday. After six weeks of early voting, 787,756 Virginia voters had cast ballots as of Thursday, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

To vote early in-person, Virginia voters must bring a valid form of identification, such as voter registration confirmation documents, a Virginia driver’s license or a United States passport. Additional information about qualifying documents can be found on the Virginia Department of Election’s website. Voters without proper identification can cast a provisional ballot.

Here are the early voting locations and times open Saturday in Hampton Roads:

  • Chesapeake: The General Registrar’s Office at 411 Cedar Road is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Hampton: The General Registrar’s Office at 101 Kings Way is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • James City County: The James City County Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Newport News: City Hall at 2400 Washington Ave. on the sixth floor is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A satellite location at Fountain Plaza II at 700 Town Center Drive in the first floor conference room is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Norfolk: The Norfolk Office of Elections at 810 Union St., Suite 100 is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Portsmouth: The Office of the General Registrar in City Hall at 801 Crawford St. on the first floor is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Suffolk: The Registrar’s office, located at 440 Market Street, is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Virginia Beach: The primary voting location, Building 14 of the Municipal Center at 2449 Princess Anne Road, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city also offers early voting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at four satellite locations: Bayside Recreation Center, Great Neck Recreation Center, Seatack Recreation Center, and M. E. Oberndorf Central Library.

  • Williamsburg: The Office of Voter Registration at 401 Lafayette St. is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ballot drop boxes will be available.

  • York County: The York County Registrar’s Offices, located at 5322 George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown and 6614 Mooretown Road., Suite A. in Williamsburg, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Across Hampton Roads, from the south side of Chesapeake up the peninsula to York County, more than 150,000 people have cast ballots through early voting this year. Early voter counts tallied by VPAP through Thursday include: Chesapeake, 27,361; Hampton, 10,819; James City County, 14,404; Newport News, 10,794; Norfolk, 13,302; Portsmouth, 6,149; Suffolk, 9,339; Virginia Beach, 45,610; Williamsburg, 2,162; and York County, 10,192.

For the first time in Virginia, those who are not registered can still register to vote on Election Day and cast a provisional ballot.
