The Oregon Health Authority on Friday lifted its health advisory for unsafe levels of fecal bacteria in the water at Nye Beach in Newport.

The state agency had issued an advisory earlier this week asking people to avoid direct contact with the ocean water.

According to a press release, follow-up tests by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality showed lower bacteria levels. OHA said contact with ocean water is no longer a higher-than-normal risk.

Beachgoers are advised to say out of large pools on the beach that birds visit as well as runoff from those pools as there may be increased bacteria from fecal matter.
