Classes

SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “Behaviors” from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 18 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live/interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer. SOUTH BEND — RiverBend Cancer Services Wellness House, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., will offer the following “Living Well with Cancer” classes. All classes are free and open to cancer patients, survivors, their families, and caregivers; register for all classes by calling 574-287-4197.

• Seated Strength — 10 a.m. Sept. 18 and Sept. 20. Strength-building class that may utilize light weights and bands while seated or with a chair for support. Class size is limited.

• Zen Coloring — 1 p.m. Sept. 18.

• Gentle Yoga — 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18. Floor yoga class suitable for all levels of experience. Bring your own mat. Class size is limited.

• Chair Yoga — 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 19 and Sept. 21. Modified poses that can be done from a seated position and with a chair for support. Class size is limited.

Events

ELKHART — Enjoy hiking a different park trail every month, make new friends, get a little exercise, and glimpse the bounty of nature at every curve and corner. The Hiking Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month through October. On Sept. 19, meet at 6 p.m. and take a 1.5-mile hike starting at Baintertown Parking lot in River Preserve County Park, 17477 County Road 46 in New Paris. There is no fee for the Hiking Club. GOSHEN — Goshen Health is offering free advance planning seminars every third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Advance care planning is a process to document the medical care you want to receive if you would become unable to communicate your wishes. The seminar will explain the role of an advance care plan, what to include in a plan and how to designate a healthcare representative. Participants will have the opportunity to schedule a private appointment to complete their document. The seminar is held in the Arbor Conference Room at Goshen Hospital, 200 High Park Ave. Registration is required at GoshenHealth.com/Plan-Ahead or by calling 574-364-2288. Participants are encouraged to bring a family member or close friend who will be involved with their healthcare decisions. The next seminar will be held Sept. 19.

CASSOPOLIS — The Church World Service CROP Walk will take place on Oct. 1 at the Cassopolis Council on Aging track, 60525 Decatur Road. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. with the walk beginning at 2 p.m. Event planners have picked a “worker bee” theme so wear yellow and black to “bee” part of the solution. CWS has programs to combat hunger by helping small farmers with ways to improve harvest, provide clean water, hygiene, and sanitation, and more. ONLINE — One in three adults has prediabetes and does not even know it. Registration is now open for an online Diabetes Prevention Program event from 1 to 2 p.m. Sept. 18. Learn practical tips from a certified lifestyle coach on healthy exercise techniques and nutrition to prevent Type 2 diabetes and ways to achieve and maintain great health for the long haul, all for free.
