Oak Street Health opens in Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA — Oak Street Health is now welcoming patients at 422 W. McKinley Ave. Oak Street Health delivers personalized, preventive primary care through a model that was created to meet the unique needs of older adults. The integrated model incorporates behavioral healthcare and social determinants support and is easily accessible through a mix of in-center, in-home and telehealth appointments, as well as a 24/7 patient support line. Oak Street Health accepts all forms of Medicare, including Original Medicare Part B, select Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement or Medigap plans and Medicare-Medicaid Plans. Way to Grow baby shower in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY — A free “Way to Grow” baby shower for expectant families and new parents will be held from 10 a.m. to noon CDT Oct. 7 at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way, in the Maria Theresia Conference Room. Information and education on car seat safety, prenatal care, safe sleep and community resources will be offered along with tours of the Family Birth Center, refreshments and giveaways. SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “Alzheimers and Dementia 101” from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 2 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live/interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer. Events

MISHAWAKA — Multiple flu vaccination events will be held at the Jackie Walorski VA Clinic, 1540 Trinity Place. This will be free to all VA-enrolled veterans who bring a Veteran Healthcare ID card. Please wear a loose-fitting, short sleeve shirt and wear a mask. Flu vaccinations will also be offered to veterans at every face-to-face scheduled appointment. The drive-thru vaccination event will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 30; 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 3; and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10.

BERRIEN COUNTY — Corewell Health Lakeland will hold the following community drive-thru flu shot clinics. No appointment is needed, and participants remain in their vehicles the entire time. Must be 18 years or older.

• 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2, Dowagiac Fire Department, 302 Wolf St., Dowagiac.

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3, Corewell Health Lakeland Hospitals–Niles, 31 N. St. Joseph Ave., Niles.

• Noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 5, First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph.

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6, Corewell Health Center for Outpatient Services, 3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph.

Support Groups

SOUTH BEND — The New Hope Support Group will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood. This interdenominational group is for divorced, widows, widowers and anyone suffering grief due to the loss of a loved one. The group meets in a large area of the basement level of the church. ELKHART — An Epilepsy Support Group will meet the first Thursday of every month and is for individuals with epilepsy and families of those with epilepsy. The group meets from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Thomas School, 1331 Main St., entrance off small parking lot.
