Classes

SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “Alzheimer’s & Dementia 101” from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 11 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live/interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer. SOUTH BEND — RiverBend Cancer Services Wellness House, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., will offer the following “Living Well with Cancer” classes. All classes are free and open to cancer patients, survivors, their families and caregivers; pre-register for all classes by calling 574-287-4197.

• Head and Neck Cancer Support Group — 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

• Seated Strength — 10 a.m. Sept. 11 and Sept. 13. Strength building class that may utilize light weights and bands while seated or with a chair for support. Class size is limited.

• Sweet Pumpkin Gnome — 1 p.m. Sept. 11.

• Gyna Girls — 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

• Gentle Yoga — 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Floor yoga class suitable for all levels of experience. Bring your own mat. Class size is limited.

• Chair Yoga — 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and Sept. 14. Modified poses that can be done from a seated position and with a chair for support. Class size is limited.

Events

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Veggie Van will be at University Medical Specialties, 9045 US Highway 31, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13. It will offer free, locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as nutrition information. This event is drive-thru style and participants can remain in their vehicles. A total of 100 bags will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

BERRIEN COUNTY — Lakeland Care Network, in collaboration with Corewell Health, will offer drive-thru community flu shots for adults ages 18 and older. Patients can remain in their car while the shot is administered. No appointment is necessary. Lakeland Care will administer the quadrivalent flu vaccine, which offers protection against four different flu viruses. The high dose quadrivalent flu vaccine will be available for those age 65 years and older.

If community members would like Lakeland Care to bill their health insurance, they will need to bring their insurance card with them. To pay at time of vaccination, the cost is $37 or $74 for the high-dose vaccine (cash or check only; credit cards not accepted). Drive-thru sites include:
