A Georgia health care company with more than 100 locations throughout the Southeast has acquired two care facilities from Piedmont Augusta.

Norcross-based PruittHealth has assumed management of Augusta Extended Care Westwood, 561 University Dr., Evans, and Piedmont Augusta Extended Care Kentwood, 1227 W. Wheeler Pkwy.

Westwood has rebranded as PruittHealth Evans. Kentwood has been renamed PruittHealth Richmond.

Terms of the financial transactions were not immediately disclosed.

The local purchases expand PruittHealth’s footprint in the Augusta area. The company already operates PruittHealth Augusta, 2541 Milledgeville Rd.; PruittHealth Augusta Hills, 2122 Cumming Rd.; and PruittHealth Hospice, 1220 Augusta West Pkwy.

In the same announcement about the Augusta properties Thursday, PruittHealth also acquired a third Georgia facility that it already managed in Stockbridge.

All three properties are “skilled nursing facilities,” the term describing healthcare venues where medical professionals help patients recover from illness or injury and regain their abilities to perform daily tasks in everyday living such as walking, bathing and dressing.

"After an extensive process and search for the most appropriate new owner and operator for these three Skilled Nursing Facilities, it was natural for us to select PruittHealth, an organization we have known and trusted for years, to provide care for patients and our people transitioning to these facilities," said Piedmont Chief Development and Strategy Officer Jack Tillman. "We are most impressed with PruittHealth's focus and dedication to providing high-quality skilled nursing services close to home."

Founded in 1969 as UHS-Pruitt Corporation, the company was renamed to PruittHealth in 2014 to better reflect its expanded services including advanced rehabilitation, home health and hospice.
