Hear from candidates at two Oak Ridge forums

The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge is holding two forums for candidates listed on ballots in the city of Oak Ridge.

Candidates for U.S. House, TN Senate, and TN House Districts 32 and 33 are invited to appear at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Candidates for Oak Ridge City Council and Board of Education are invited to speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20.

Both forums will be held in Roane State Community College City Room A-111. That's in the Coffey/McNally Building, 701 Briarcliff Ave. William “Bear” Stephenson has been invited to moderate.

According to an LWV news release, all candidates are invited to give opening statements, answer questions from the audience and the moderator, and give closing statements.

Before the forum, the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a meet-and-greet for candidates and the public 6-7 p.m. in the Visitor’s Lobby adjacent to A-111 City Room.

Who's running?

Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives Third Congressional District are Chuck Fleischmann (R), Meg Gorman (D), Thomas M. Rumba (I), and Rick Tyler (I).

Sen. Randy McNally (R), incumbent for Tennessee Senate District 5, is unopposed.

Candidates for the Tennessee House District 32 covering part of Roane and Loudon counties are Monty Fritts (R) and Jan Hahn (D).

Candidates for Tennessee House District 33 covering most of Anderson County are John D. Ragan (R) and Jim Dodson (D).

Candidates for a 4-year term on City Council are Carmen DeLong, Sean Gleason, Warren L. Gooch, L.C. “Charlie” Hensley, and Ellen D. Smith. Four council members will be elected.

Candidates for a 4-year term on the Oak Ridge Board of Education are Heather G. Hartman, Laura McLean, Benjamin J. Stephens, and Erin S. Webb. Three board members will be elected.

Several of these candidates are new to Oak Ridge voters.
