A driving instructor from Rogers Driving School said he and a student were stopped at the Nelson Run Road exit, waiting for the light to change, when one person was shot across the way.

“There was a man and a woman outside talking, and I said, ‘It looks like a little fender bender.’ Shortly thereafter, I heard gunfire,” the instructor said, who didn’t want to be identified. “I looked across the road and up on Nelson Run Road, there was a person with a rifle, and I’d say there were about 3-5 shots, shooting down at these people. They scurried, and got into their car, and immediately drove up McKnight.”

“Forty-five years in this location, I’ve never had a situation like that,” said Timothy Rogers, owner of the Rogers Driving School

When Rogers heard sirens from his driving school on McKnight road, he never imagined that one of his employees and a client were right in the middle of it.

“What we do, by nature, has its dangers to it, but I guess this is real life,” Rogers said.

Instead of a car accident, the call was a shooting investigation. The instructor ordered his student to take cover when hearing gunfire.

“The light finally changed, and I drove past, and the one car that had pulled into Network Access, I saw there was a pretty big hole in the back window of their car,” the instructor said.

Ross Township police said the person inside that car was shot and was taken to the hospital. The driving instructor said he’s shaken up but will be back at work tomorrow.

“I’m glad everyone is okay, but yeah, you never expect something like this happening,” Rogers said.

Ross Township police said their suspect may be connected to another incident in Pittsburgh’s North Side. They’re comparing notes and exploring all possible avenues.
