Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank embraces new name, announces diaper drives

CANTON −The Stark County Diaper Bank has changed its name to the Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank to reflect the growth in its service area, its Ohio community distribution partners, and mission to offer support to families experiencing need.

The Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer organization that provides support to families with children experiencing diaper need. Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank volunteers prepare and distribute collected diapers through 23 community distribution partners in six counties – Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Wayne, Medina and Harrison.

These partners include food pantries, family service agencies, and faith-based organizations. A complete list is available on the new website, www.heartofohiodiaperbank.org. Each agency has its own requirements for qualification to receive diapers and supplies.

Several diaper drives are scheduled this month:

  • Friends and Family Credit Union is collecting diapers during December at its three locations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Boxes are inside Acme Fresh Market at 2905 Whipple Ave. NW in Jackson Township or at the Massillon offices at 3920 Erie St. S and 46 Federal Ave. NW.

  • Dalton Dari-ette, at U.S. Route 30 and Mill Street in Dalton, will be collecting diapers, and offering coffee, hot chocolate and cookies to donors from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

  • Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Canton will host a diaper drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 2585 Easton St. NE, Plain Township.

  • The Royal Touch Spa, 4119 Whipple Ave. NW, Jackson Township, will collect diapers and wipes until Dec. 31.

Over 30,000 diapers a month are distributed to the community distribution partners, with over 700 babies a month receiving diapers. Each child is provided with 50 diapers a month sizes newborn to 5 and 30 diapers sizes 6 and pull-ups.

The Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank also distributes wipes and adult incontinence supplies.

Beginning in January, the Diaper Bank will make menstruation supplies available to its Community Distribution Partners to help women who struggle affording period items.
