‘Heart & Sole’ virtual 5K to benefit JAFCO children

People will have the opportunity to run, walk, bike, spin or swim for Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options’ virtual 5K weekend in April.

JAFCO is a Sunrise-based organization that provides services to abused, neglected and at-risk children, as well as those with developmental disabilities in South Florida.

Funds raised from the “Heart & Sole” virtual 5K, which takes place from April 9-12, benefits the children of the organization. Participants will be able to track their mileage while doing exercises anywhere, including walking outdoors with family or inside running on a treadmill, at anytime that weekend.

Ariel Feldman, development associate for the organization, said regarding the event, “I think it’s so important to be engaging the community.”

“We have so many donors who are used to coming to events every month or so as part of their social calendar, so I think it’s important to remind people that we are still having events and that we’re doing everything that we can,” Feldman said. “Even though we’re not fully back in person, to be able to particulate virtually is wonderful.”

Feldman noted, “Not all of our donors are Jewish, but I think a huge Jewish value in this 1/8 5K] is just giving back and doing what you can to help the community, and I think JAFCO says a lot about that.”

“We are giving every child a place to belong and we are doing everything we can to help everyone in the community, not just children, but also their families,” she continued.
