Heart of Taunton to hold ' Taste of Portugal' event at Ward 5: Taunton Eats

This week, we've got a couple of big announcements from some local organizations who are planning events to celebrate Portuguese culture, an event that will support Girls Inc., and a couple of tasty menu updates:

Heart of Taunton to hold 'Taste of Portugal' at Ward 5

Have your appetite ready for Friday, June 9, because Heart of Taunton is hosting a “Taste of Portugal.” To celebrate the Day of Portugal, which is June 10, they’re holding this event at The New Ward 5, 29 Winter St., Taunton, from 6 to 11 p.m. There will be Portuguese food and pastries, wine tasting, a live band, and folclórico (folklore dancing). The wine tasting and folclórico will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., and the live band will perform from 8 to 11. Corporate sponsors include: Bristol Wealth Group; Bristol County Savings Bank; Mechanics Cooperative Bank; Hyde Paving; Silva Funeral Home; Paul’s Custom Exhaust; Mayor’s Worthy Cause; and The New Ward 5. Holy Ghost Feast at Taunton Sports Club

With summer near at hand, the time for Portuguese festas is nigh, so there will also be a Holy Ghost Feast at Taunton Sports Club, 33 Baker Rd. W., from June 23 to 25. Hosted by the Irmandade do Espirito Santo da Santissima Trindade de Taunton Inc., the feast begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 23. It goes until midnight on Friday, and there will be all kinds of traditional Portuguese festa food, like bifanas, caçoila, favas, and malassadas, plus so much more. The fun continues on Saturday, June 24, from 6 p.m. to midnight, with a performance that evening by Starlight. There will be a procession on Sunday, June 25, leaving from Taunton Sports Club at 9 a.m., accompanied by the Taunton City Band for the Coronation Mass at 10 a.m. Sopas will be served after the Mass, and all are welcome to attend. Girls Inc. Flight Night at Riverhouse

With just 65 spots, tickets for the Girls Inc. Flight Night at Riverhouse, 260 W. Water St., Taunton, are going fast. Held at Riverhouse’s outdoor patio on Wednesday, June 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., all of the proceeds from Flight Night will go to support programming at Girls Inc. Tickets are $60 and include one choice of flight: beer, wine, sangria, margarita, or virgin cocktails, plus appetizers. There will also be baskets up for raffle. Adult iced coffee flights at Mimi’s Diner

Speaking of flights, you can now try an iced coffee flight at Mimi’s Diner, 19 Taunton Green. An adult iced coffee flight that is! They come in several different flavors, so go ahead and treat yourself.

Full-time ice cream at Uncle Ed’s

No need to scream, you now get that ice cream every day. Starting on Tuesday, May 23, you can get ice cream any time between noon and 9 p.m., because Uncle Ed’s Front Porch, 116 Winthrop St., Rehoboth, will be open for ice cream full-time.
