Dear subscriber,

Tuesday's tragic massacre that killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, has sent shockwaves of fear, anxiety and anger across the nation. It's left many parents not wanting to let go of their children after giving them extra-long hugs at school drop offs. And sparked debates about gun laws, mental health treatment and accountability. We've covered some of these multi-faceted layers in our news storiescolumns and commentaries including this story by political reporter Haley BeMiller that examines what hasn't been done in Ohio, three years after a mass shooting in Dayton claimed the lives of nine people.

Earlier in the week, court and crime enterprise reporter Jordan Laird assisted with a national USA TODAY story about the arrest of an Iraqi national living in Columbus following a long-running investigation on an assasination plot against former President George W. Bush.

Business reporter Mark Williams delivered news about Intel selecting its first construction companies for $20 billion chip projects in Ohio. Gilbane Building will manage early excavation work for the two factories that the semiconductor company is building in western Licking County.

Following reports that former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins was intoxicated when hit and killed by a dump truck in April, Chris Pugh of our Digital Optimization Team broke down what we know about ketamine and norketamine — the two drugs found in Haskins' system after his death.

And higher education reporter Sheridan Hendrix detailed what prosecutors in the Stone Foltz hazing death trial said were the lengths pledges would go to become members of the PIKE fraternity including cleaning active members' houses, acting as designated drivers, and licking the floors of campus bars and urinals.
