‘It’s heartbreaking’: Samaritan’s Purse to assist in Hawaii following deadly wildfires

Samaritan’s Purse has announced they will be responding to the deadly wildfires in Hawaii.

Chaplains said they would be helping residents with emotional support, as well as spiritual comfort.

In the Lahaina area, wildfires have scorched the oceanfront town nearly to the ground.

Members of the National Guard said they are conducting water drops and searching for survivors.

At least 55 people have died in the fire and nearly 300 homes and businesses have been destroyed.

North Carolina resident Greg Taylor said he is visiting the island and the destruction is far too real.

“It’s heartbreaking, you know, to see that place so destroyed. There’s nothing left. The pictures that I see, the harbor, all the slips are gone,” Taylor said.

Data shows Maui’s fire is expected to be ranked as the second deadliest in the United States in the past 100 years.

Officials involved said they are worried that the devastation could intensify and drive the number of people killed even higher.
