'Our hearts are broken.' Cycling world mourns Anna Moriah Wilson's death, celebrates her life

The world of competitive gravel and mountain cycling is reacting to the sudden death of a 25-year-old rising star in the sport.

Emergency personnel in Austin responded to a call of a woman who was bleeding and unconscious on Wednesday evening. They found Anna Moriah Wilson with multiple gunshots wounds at 1708 Maple Ave. After attempting life-saving measures, Wilson was declared dead at the scene.

Wilson, known to friends simply as "Mo," was a Vermont native. She had reportedly flown from Colorado to Texas in preparation for the Gravel Locos race in Hico, according to Velo News. She was the favorite to win the Saturday event following wins in several high-profile races nationwide and telling the cycling news outlet that she had left her job to begin competing full-time.
