The first reviews for Heartstopper season two have arrived, and they are glowing.

Last year, Digital Spy lauded the heartwarming Netflix series, which centres on the blossoming romance between anxious 14-year-old Charlie (Joe Locke) and popular rugby star Nick (Kit Connor), as "the most important British show since It's a Sin".

But Charlie, Nick and co are back for another season and it sounds like the YA show has raised its own bar.

At the time of writing, the second season of Heartstopper has secured an impressive 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes from seven reviews.

While this score could change as more reviews roll in ahead of the new season's release on August 3, it's an overwhelmingly positive start.

Here's what some of the critics have been saying so far:

Digital Spy

"This next chapter of the story perfectly balances the line between depicting the not-always-perfect journey of needing to continuously come out, while still prioritising the queer joy that the show has become known for, not allowing itself to get too caught up in trauma while not brushing it under the carpet either."

Metro

"Season two is just further proof that in years to come, when the world is more accepting and empathetic than it is today, we’ll look back and thank Heartstopper for being one of the key ingredients shaping the trailblazers of the future. Television simply doesn’t get more breathtaking and enriching than Heartstopper."

Mashable

"Everyone's in love or afraid to say so this season, and it's pure, sweet gold. Rather than delving into the universal horror show that is navigating sex and adolescence, perfected by its Teen British Netflix Series sibling Sex Education, Heartstopper keeps that conversation on the horizon, leaving things at a bubbling, nervous, future possibility."

Radio Times

"In its second outing, Heartstopper is simply a more confident and complex series. Having graduated from the basic romcom set-up, creator Alice Oseman is able to delve into the difficult reality of keeping a relationship afloat, with some new conflicts and crises sending the central characters into altogether choppier waters."

The Upcoming

"Bigger in scale, without losing any of the honesty and heart that made the first season an instant hit, this second instalment of Heartstopper gives fans more than they could have wished for from Nick and Charlie’s Parisian vacation."

Heartstopper is streaming on Netflix, where season 2 will premiere on August 3.
