Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney opens up on transphobic encounter
Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney has revealed she experienced a transphobic comment out in public recently.
The star plays the role of Elle Argent in Netflix's coming-of-age series, but she'd previously risen to TikTok popularity after openly discussing her life as a transgender teenager.
Over on Twitter, Finney informed her followers of this awful moment with a stranger inside a restaurant.

"'Are you a boy or a girl' Today some women shouted this in front of all of her peers while I was about to leave a restaurant...Erm Idk what do I look like to you?" the star wrote.
"I was clearly in shock when she said this and she then said 'I'm not transphobic I have trans friends' At this point I've given up hope lol."
Her fanbase were quick to share their support, as one person replied: "I'm so so sorry you went through that, love. you're wonderful and stunning and we're here to remind you of that every day if you need to."

Elsewhere, during a chat with PinkNews, Finney waxed lyrical about the opportunity to play Elle in Heartstopper.
"It really, really, really is such a rare story that we get a trans character that doesn't delve into gender dysphoria, or depression, or bullying, but just the positive – the friendship, the chosen family, the moving from an all boys' school to an all girls' school.
"Just everything that is natural about being trans is highlighted, and I'm just so happy to be that positive representation that we've needed for so many years," she continued.
Heartstopper is now streaming on Netflix.
