The Miami Heat is well represented on this season’s NBA All-Rookie teams.
Guard Kendrick Nunn was voted onto the first team and guard Tyler Herro was voted onto the second team. Nunn and Herro are the first pair of Heat teammates to be selected to the All-Rookie teams in the same season since guard Mario Chalmers and forward Michael Beasley both earned the honor in 2008-09.
The All-Rookie First Team included Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, Golden State Warriors forward Eric Paschall, Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke and Nunn.
The All-Rookie Second team included Toronto Raptors guard Terence Davis, Chicago Bulls guard Coby White, Charlotte Hornets forward P.J. Washington, Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura and Herro.
The All-Rookie teams were selected by a panel of media members, who select five players for the All-Rookie First Team and five players for the All-Rookie Second Team regardless of position. Players received two points for each first-team vote and one point for each second-team vote.
Of the 100 voters, Nunn received 98 first-team votes.
Herro received 23 first-team votes and 69 second-team votes, as Davis was the lone player on the second-team that received more first-team votes than him. Herro finished just one point short of making the first team.
Nunn, who finished second in the voting for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year honor, averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in a starting role in the regular season. The 25-year-old went undrafted in 2018 and signed with the Heat on the final day of the 2018-19 regular season.
Herro, who was selected by the Heat with the 13th overall pick in last year’s draft, averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the regular season. The 20-year-old missed 18 games because of various injuries, including right ankle soreness that forced him to sit out 15 games.
Nunn and Herro are the 12th and 13th different Heat players in franchise history to be voted onto the NBA’s All-Rookie teams. The other 11 players are: Kevin Edwards, Sherman Douglas, Glen Rice, Willie Burton, Steve Smith, Caron Butler, Udonis Haslem, Dwyane Wade, Beasley, Chalmers and Justise Winslow.
In addition to being represented on the All-Rookie teams, the Heat also had a player voted onto one of the NBA’s All-Defensive teams. Bam Adebayo was named to the All-Defensive Second Team last week.
▪ Jimmy Butler arrived to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals with a white tank top that featured the words: “Big Face Coffee Owner.”
How serious is Butler about the coffee business he began in the Disney bubble? He filed a trademark application to register the logo of “Big Face Coffee,” a source confirmed.
