Heat’s Tyler Herro ruled out vs. Thunder due to hip contusion

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was ruled out of Monday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena two hours before tipoff due to a right hip contusion.

Herro was injured during the first half of Saturday night’s victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

The Heat had listed Herro as questionable overnight.

“I would have been surprised if he was able to go, based on not being able to play in the second half the other night,” coach Erik Spoelstra said. “But we’ll evaluate him day to day. And it’s feeling a little better than it did yesterday, so that’s a good sign.”

The absence left the Heat without three guards, with Goran Dragic (ankle) and Avery Bradley (calf) missing the entire seven-game trip that concluded Monday night.

The Heat also remained without center Meyers Leonard (shoulder) and forward Chris Silva (hip).

Herro had appeared in 12 of the 13 games prior to Monday, with that lone absence due to NBA health and safety protocols. He previously had missed seven consecutive games due to neck spasms.

The Heat next play Wednesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena against the Toronto Raptors, at the start of a four-game homestand.
