‘A Class H felony’: Threat prompts evacuation at Salisbury High School

SALISBURY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A heavy police presence was reported at Salisbury High School on Tuesday and students were evacuated following a threatening phone call.

According to Rowan-Salisbury Schools, the high school received a phone call communicating a threat. School administration and law enforcement were alerted, and the call was investigated while students evacuated the building, school officials said.

Law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the building and around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday determined that the campus was safe for students to return to class.

Those at the scene informed QCN that students had been outside for about two hours, and authorities had searched all bookbags before declaring the building safe.

“I encourage parents to use this opportunity as a springboard for conversations with your children about the seriousness of communicating threats in any situation and to help them understand that communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property is a Class H felony,” Principal Marvin Moore said in a letter to families.

No word if any students have been charged in connection to this threat at this time.
