Several break into Birkdale Village jewelry store that was recently robbed

Police are looking for several peopled accused of breaking into a jewelry store in Birkdale Village Thursday morning. The store, Fink’s Jewelers, was robbed earlier this month.

Around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, witnesses told Huntersville officers they saw a blue van parked outside of the store. They also reported seeing the front window of Fink’s Jewelers smashed out and several people inside.

Police said the people inside ran out of the store and tried to leave in the van but it broke down. They ended up running away instead.

Investigators believe the group was picked up by another car.

Birkdale Village Townley Road near Birkdale Commons Parkway was blocked off with crime scene tape, and Channel 9 crews could see the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the Huntersville Police Department, and the Davidson Police Department at the scene.

Police mostly focused on a gray Chrysler minivan for much of the investigation. They described the suspects as follows:

  • Suspect 1: Unknown race. Large, framed male wearing a white button-down shirt, gray pants, a dark baseball hat, sunglasses, an N95-type mask, and gloves

  • Suspect 2: Dark-skinned, large, framed male wearing a light-colored hoodie, black sweatpants, a head covering (possibly a balaclava), sunglasses, gloves, and white sneakers

  • Suspect 3: Stayed in the van, unknown description

Based on the police description, the van in question appears to be the one Channel 9 found at the scene.

Investigators said the van is a blue 2001 Chrysler Town and Country displaying a dealer tag from Parker’s Used Cars in Blenheim, South Carolina. It has damage to the left rear side above the wheel well, the right rear bumper is falling off, the back windshield has been taped in place, and the paint is faded and chipping on the hood.

This is the second investigation at the jewelry store within the last two weeks. On July 12, thieves with guns and sledgehammers robbed Fink’s Jewelers while wearing hooded sweatshirts and full-face masks.

Those suspects were never caught, according to police.
