One child was rushed to the hospital and another remains missing after lightning struck while they were rowing a boat on Lake Fairview Thursday evening.
It happened around 5:50 p.m. as evening storms picked up.
Orlando firefighters said the children on board the boat were middle-school aged, but they couldn’t confirm whether lightning actually hit the boat. One person had to be taken to Adventhealth Orlando. An Orlando Fire Department dive team launched a rescue mission to find one child who was unaccounted for.
Officials said five children were on board when lightning hit the boat or close to the boat.
Details about the two victims are limited, but firefighters said Thursday night they would continue the search for the missing child.
