Heavy rain, possible thunderstorms and flooding expected for Central Indiana this week

Hoosiers might want to pack their umbrellas over the next few days as round after round of heavy rains move through Central Indiana, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

"We're looking at 1-3 inches of rain Thursday night," said NWS meteorologist Aaron Updike. "We're going to get even more rain late Friday and Friday night. In total, we're looking at 2-5 inches of rain, which could cause flooding, especially along rivers and waterways."

Updike said there was a chance the area could see thunderstorms Thursday night along with light hail, but meteorologists were more concerned about heavy showers. He urged Hoosiers to ensure they had a way of getting weather alerts on their phone, or through a NOAA Weather Radio in case of flash flooding.
