Heavy rain, wind looms in Bucks County weather forecast. What fall fests are cancelled?

There's scores of fall fun and festivals planned this weekend in and around Bucks County, but the forecast for Saturday may make for some washouts of the seasonal revelry as the forecast is downright miserable.

The New Hope Arts and Crafts Festival was cancelled Thursday as the forecast worsened, with officials saying there was no way to make the weekend work and no rain date available. Yardley's Harvest Day has been postponed.

"I would describe this weekend's weather as pretty dismal," said Cameron Wunderlin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. "This is not going to be an outdoor weekend at all."

What to know about this weekend's weather and how it may impact Bucks County events.

Turbulent weekend weather in the forecast for Bucks County region

The National Weather Service calls for a partly sunny day with mild winds and a high temperature near 73 on Friday, but the weather takes a gloomy and chilly turn with rain expected a little after 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Steady rain, becoming heavy at times, is expected throughout the day on Saturday, with a high of 65. Saturday will also be a gusty day, with winds nearing 20 miles per hour.

Rain is in the forecast for Sunday morning, which will give way to a mostly cloudy day, with temperatures topping out at 68.

"The data shows that the worse damper on weekend activities will occur on Saturday as opposed to Sunday, but you could still see rain throughout the day on Sunday, although the rain will taper off somewhat," Wunderlin said. "Generally, I would not characterize this weekend an outdoorsy one."

The National Weather Service also issued a weekend weather alert for coastal flooding, high risk of rip currents and dangerus surf and marine conditions at the Jersey shore.

And the National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm warning for parts of the East Coast from Cape Fear, North Carolina, to Fenwick Island, Delaware. This means tropical storm force winds are expected in the next 36 hours in these areas.

New Hope Arts Fest canceled, Yardley Harvest Day postponed

There are several events this weekend throughout Bucks County that may be affected by this weekend's stormy weather.

Here are a few to keep an eye on.

Rain was not supposed to hinder Yardley Harvest Day, which is a rain or shine event, but Thursday officials pulled the plug for Saturday.

"Due to worsening weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Yardley Harvest Day 2023. Although Yardley Harvest Day has always been a rain or shine event, in consideration of the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, we believe this is the best course of action," read an online statement on the event's Facebook page.

"We are waiting on confirmation of an upcoming available date. When and if finalized, the new date will be shared on our social pages and website."

This year marks 55 years of Yardley Harvest Day, an event that draws thousands to the borough with a wide variety of handmade crafts and artwork, great food, local and civic groups and businesses, and live music and entertainment.

The fall festival at the Quakertown Farmers Market was cancelled Thursday ahead of the storm.

A Cavalcade of Bands competition, Marching at the Rock, at Council Rock North has also been canceled. There is no makeup date, officials said. Ten marching bands from across the region were to display the music, artistry and showmanship they’ve practiced over the summer and fall seasons at Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown.

The Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce, prime sponsor of the New Hope Arts and Crafts Festival, also canceled its event Thursday, despite being billed as a rain-or-shine event on both Saturday and Sunday.

The festival was to feature more than 160 juried artists exhibiting their works across media such as oils, watercolors, pastels, sculpture, fine and fun jewelry, ceramics, works in wood, fiber, furniture, wearable art, glass art, photography, outsider art.

Warrington officials said a decision would be made on Friday at noon regarding this weekend's Warrington Day community celebration.

As it stands, the event is to begin at noon on Saturday at Upper Nike Park at Bradley and Folly roads.
